Two Terrorists Killed as Army Foils Infiltration Bid Along LoC in J&K's Kupwara
SRINAGAR: Indian Army troops successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the elimination of two suspected terrorists.
The incident began late Monday evening, around 7 PM, when alert troops detected suspicious movement near the border fence in the area. According to a statement issued by Indian Army officials, forces immediately opened fire towards the activity, prompting a comprehensive search operation throughout the night and into Tuesday morning sources told TheIndianHawk.
The Army's initial statement on Monday confirmed the exchange of fire: “In the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army troops witnessed some suspicious movement along the Line of Control and fired towards it in the evening, around 7 PM. Operations are continuing in the area. More details awaited.”
The overnight operations, conducted jointly by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, confirmed that the suspicious movement was, in fact, an attempt at infiltration from across the border.
Operation Confirms Fatalities
On Tuesday morning, officials confirmed that the sustained search and engagement resulted in the neutralisation of two individuals. The bodies of the two slain terrorists were subsequently spotted in the area, believed to be near the Machil and Dudniyal sectors of Kupwara. Retrieval efforts are underway as the location is extremely close to the rugged terrain of the LoC.
Security forces have launched a large-scale cordon and search operation across the sector to rule out the presence of any other militants who may have managed to breach the perimeter during the firing. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to secure the area completely.
The foiled infiltration bid comes amid increased vigilance by security forces along the LoC. Historically, such attempts tend to escalate as winter approaches and heavy snowfall limits movement and visibility across the mountainous border regions. Authorities remain on high alert to counter any further attempts to push militants into the valley.
