AUSTRAHIND 2025: India-Australia Joint Military Exercise Commences

PERTH, AUSTRALIA | October 14, 2025 : The fourth edition of the joint bilateral military exercise AUSTRAHIND between the Indian Army and the Australian Army officially commenced with a dynamic opening ceremony held on October 13, 2025, at Irwin Barracks in Perth, Australia.

The annual exercise is specifically designed to significantly enhance interoperability and operational readiness between the two forces. Over the next two weeks, the participating contingents will focus on executing complex, joint company-level operations in urban and semi-urban terrain, allowing both armies to exchange best practices, tactics, techniques, and procedures in sub-conventional warfare environments.

The commencement of AUSTRAHIND 2025 holds particular strategic weight, coming shortly after the visit of the Honourable Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister), Shri Rajnath Singh, to Australia. The exercise actively reinforces the growing defence cooperation and enduring camaraderie that defines the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Officials from both sides highlighted that the joint maneuvers are crucial for strengthening mutual trust and partnership, and for reaffirming the commitment of India and Australia to regional peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. The exercise will feature joint planning sessions, tactical drills, and specialized arms skills training to ensure seamless coordination in a combined force environment.
