The Indian Air Force (IAF) is fast-tracking a new government-to-government deal with France to acquire an additional 90 Rafale F4 fighter jets. The IAF's sanctioned squadron strength is 42, but its current operational strength is significantly lower. The phased retirement of aging aircraft, such as the MiG-21, has created a critical gap. This new acquisition would help bridge that gap and bring the total Rafale fleet to 126 aircraft, equivalent to seven squadrons, fulfilling a long-standing requirement.
