A fierce encounter erupted in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, as security forces engaged militants in Juthana village. Heavy gunfire reported; area cordoned.

K(caps)athua, Jammu and Kashmir – A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and suspected militants in the Juthana area of Kathua district on Tuesday, sparking a heavy exchange of gunfire and prompting heightened security measures in the region.

According to official sources, the gunfight began after security personnel, acting on specific intelligence inputs, launched a cordon-and-search operation in the remote village. Upon encountering resistance, troops retaliated, leading to a prolonged exchange of fire.

“The operation is still ongoing, and the area has been sealed off to prevent the militants from escaping,” a senior police officer stated, requesting anonymity. Reinforcements have been rushed to the site, and drones have been deployed for surveillance.

Local residents reported hearing multiple explosions and continuous gunfire, with security forces urging civilians to stay indoors. “We heard loud blasts and gunshots early in the morning. The forces have blocked all roads leading to the village,” said a witness.

This latest encounter comes amid a surge in militant activities in the Jammu region, raising concerns over renewed insurgent movements ahead of the upcoming festive season. Authorities have intensified counter-terrorism operations following recent intelligence warnings of possible infiltration attempts.
