Modi, Lula Vow to Deepen India-Brazil Partnership

NEW DELHI – In response to global economic pressures, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a phone call to reaffirm their commitment to a strategic partnership. The talks follow a recent visit by the Prime Minister to Brazil, which he described as "memorable and meaningful."

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared the common vision of both nations and stressed the commitment to improving cooperation across many sectors.

"We are committed to deepening our Strategic Partnership including in trade, energy, tech, defence, health, and more," he wrote.

This teamwork is viewed as a crucial step in building a "strong, people-centric partnership" between two important nations of the Global South.

The conversation with President Lula builds on the momentum from Modi's recent state visit to Brasilia, where both leaders agreed on a framework to strengthen bilateral ties.

Key areas of cooperation are vital for the future growth and global influence of both countries. In trade, the focus is on boosting economic ties and increasing bilateral trade goals.

Collaboration in the energy sector aims to find opportunities in both hydrocarbon and renewable energy, showing a shared commitment to sustainable development. The partnership will also progress in technology, focusing on digital cooperation and new innovations.

Defence ties will be enhanced through joint military exercises and the exchange of delegations, while cooperation in health and traditional medicine aims to improve public welfare in both nations.

The renewed commitment to a "people-centric" partnership holds special importance, as both India and Brazil are key players in multilateral forums like BRICS and the G20. Their strengthened cooperation sends a strong message about South-South solidarity and the common goal of creating a fairer world, turning diplomatic goodwill into real benefits for their citizens and the broader international community.
