Moscow, Russia | In a significant turn of events early Wednesday, Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted at least 11 Ukrainian drones reportedly heading toward Moscow. The update was shared by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin through the Telegram messaging app.

The drones were downed over the Ramenskoye and Domodedovo districts, which lie around 25 to 30 miles south and southeast of the Kremlin. Mayor Sobyanin reassured residents, stating that, "According to preliminary information, there is no damage or injuries."

In response to the incident, Russia's aviation authority temporarily suspended flights at Zhukovo and Domodedovo airports as a precaution to ensure air travel safety. This move highlights the ongoing security concerns surrounding the capital amid rising tensions.

Though Reuters has not independently verified the reports of the drone attacks, the incident underscores the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the attack.

Kyiv has previously stated that its operations on Russian soil are aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure that supports Moscow’s military efforts, a strategy that has emerged as a response to Russia’s continuous bombardment of Ukraine over the past three years.

As the situation unfolds, authorities in Moscow and its surrounding areas remain on high alert, reflecting the continuing volatility in the region.
