Pakistan's Infiltration Efforts and the Farmers' Protest: A Security Concern

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has raised serious security concerns, cautioning that Pakistan is exploiting the ongoing farmers’ protest to escalate its cross-border activities. According to the Chief Minister, there has been a significant increase in the smuggling of illegal weapons and drugs into Punjab, a development he believes is part of a larger, sinister plot to destabilize the border state.

A Growing Threat from Across the Border

Captain Amarinder Singh has repeatedly warned the Central government about Pakistan’s persistent attempts to infiltrate India. He has expressed particular alarm about the increase in “drone deliveries” of weapons, money, and heroin since the farmers’ agitation began.

Singh revealed that he had met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in November to convey his concerns, highlighting that while some drones are intercepted, many may be successfully reaching their intended targets. He cautioned that Pakistan has sleeper cells that could be activated, and that a “disturbed Punjab suits Pakistan’s policy.“

The Chief Minister also emphasized the strategic importance of the region, noting that a significant portion of the Indian Army hails from this area. He stressed the need for caution in reporting on the situation to ensure that the morale of the troops is not negatively impacted.

The recent spurt in cross-border smuggling, according to Captain Amarinder Singh, is not a coincidence but a calculated move to sow unrest within the country. The Chief Minister’s warning calls for a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of this alleged conspiracy and to neutralize the threat posed by these clandestine operations.
